Waveney Fc 1 v 0 Scole United Fc

This week's game was a tough away encounter against 4th placed Waveney Fc with Scole looking to avenge a 0-3 defeat at home in early January. As is now the norm it was a much changed Scole squad with injuries, work and players being away all playing a part. Jack Payne, Brendan Head and Hayden Wilby all stepped up from the reserves.
This was a classic game of two halves with Scole going against the wind in the 1st period. Waveney took the lead in the 18th minute when their forwards showed good pace as they hit Scole with a textbook counter attack. It could have got worse for the away side as Waveney also hit the woodwork twice and keeper Kai Hewitt performed his usual heroics to deny them on 2 or 3 occasions. A slight tactical change saw Scole get more into the game towards the end of the half and after a couple more tweaks and some instruction in the interval Scole came out firing on all cylinders in the second half.
Tom Dade scored with another netbusting finish only for the celebrations to be muted by the assistants flag and referee Ben Green concurring with his colleague. Minutes later lightning quick Joe Hooton broke through the home defence to go one on one with the keeper and just as it looked like he would equalize the keeper did very well to smother the chance. Scole absolutely dominated possession and territory but couldn't find the finish. Waveney did nearly get a second late on but centre back Dan Betts did well to get back and clear off the line.
So a second defeat on the bounce but Scole can take heart with a second half performance that saw them come so close to getting something out of the game.

Man of the match picked by long term supporter Brian Foreman: Kai Hewitt for his brilliant first half performance plus a special mention for young full back Joe Andrews who is growing in stature with every game.

No game next week but the reserves are away to league champions Belton in their last game of the season. The 1st team are away to Blofield United on Saturday 30th March.
