It was an unfamiliar Scole team that travelled to face long term Premier Division tenants Acle United. The return of Ash Baxter, Reece Lanchester and Josh Lucraft helped out and 16 year old Kyle Halil made his debut in adult football. Veteran Dan Burton once again stepped up when needed and Assistant Manager Ed Hipperson stood in as a substitute.
A strong wind spoilt any chance of real quality football but both sides tried to make the best of it in the 1st half. Acle scored the opener on 20 minutes when slack marking allowed the striker to finish a cross from the right. 2 minutes later an Acle free kick fell kindly to another unmarked attacker whose shot went into the corner of the net to double the lead. Scole rallied when a good Josh Lucraft corner was powerfully headed home by centre back Dan Betts at the back post. The game was looking tight then but Acle regained their 2 goal advantage by scoring on the break just on half-time.
10 minutes into the second half goal number four came when the tricky left winger twisted into the box and finished well. The killer came a couple of minutes later when a speculative long distance free kick caught the wind and went over keeper Kai Hewitt into the goal. Scole once again rallied and in all honesty played the better football at times but the score remained a very harsh looking 5-1.
The positive was a super debut from Man of the Match Kyle Halil whose performance belied his tender years.
Next week the 1st team are away at Waveney Fc. 14:30 kick off.
