U13s Scole 5 : Norwich Corinthians 2
By Paul Taylor
An outstanding team performance resulted in Scole securing a comfortable home win against league leaders Norwich Corinthians.
Scole were the dominant force in the first half, defending exceptionally well thanks to George Erith, Adam Coulter, Mackenzie Manning, Archie Parr and James Taylor.
Ben Morrissey and Henry Nicholls worked relentlessly in mid-field, passing the ball well with Thomas Church and Jimmy Ellwood on the wings, and with Callum Mayes and Brad Potter up front.
Scoles's efforts were rewarded after twenty eight minutes when Callum Mayes' cross into the box took a deflection off a defender to give Scole the lead. Brad Potter's quick reactions saw him add Scole's second minutes later with a solid strike on target, giving Scole a 2:0 lead into the break.
Scole’s momentum continued into the second half, despite the headwind and rain - Callum Mayes using his pace and strength to add two further goals within the first twelve minutes.
Corinthians then clawed one back after following up a rebounded free kick and added a second shortly after to make it 4:2. With added vigour from the visitors, Scole had to rely upon some outstanding, acrobatic goalkeeping from Ewan Johnson to maintain the score line.
In the closing minutes, a counter attack by Scole lead to Jimmy Ellwood taking a long range strike, finding the top corner of the net to secure the final result.
Well done boys, an excellent performance.
