Scole hit 6 past promotion rivals
Scole United Vets travelled to FDC Open Academy to face Wymondham Town on the 3G surface. Looking to reverse a 3-0 home defeat, Scole fielded one of their strongest teams, but it was the hosts who made the brighter start. Scole forced a corner which was half cleared, and took the lead as Michael Earrye hit home on the ha;f volley from 25 yards. The hosts were soon level, using the width of the pitch to create Scole problems. Scole thought that they had retaken the lead, Ruddock’s free-kick bounced down off the bar and appeared to be well over the line, but no goal was given. This spurred on Scole, who then started to dominate and when the hosts keeper twice tried to ply out from the back, he was punished on both occasions by Matty Goreham. Just before the break, Powell’s cross was turned into his own goal by one of the Wymondham defenders.
The hosts changed to a 3-5-2 formation after the break and started strongly, forcing two good saves from keeper Bartram. Soon after Scole scored the killer goal, Hanner marking his return with a headed finish. Wymondham did pull another goal back with a smart move, but Scole restored their 4 goal lead near the end when Hutchinson was put clean through on goal.
A tough call for man of the match with Powell’s industry just edging out Earrye.
