Vets remain top
By Christiaan Partridge
Hard fought win sees Vets consolidate top spot.
In very different conditions to last week, Scole Vets faced Unthank Arms away, the hosts having had significantly improved results in recent weeks. Playing on a tight, muddy pitch, Scole struggled to play the flowing football of the previous week, and the hosts made it very difficult. Scole did take the lead, the home keeper making a mess of Powell’s free kick. Scole then lost Ellis to injury, but were able to bring on Hughes as a replacement. The ball spent a lot of time out of play in a very scrappy affair, but Scole were growing into the game.
Scole took better control after the break, almost adding a second through Goreham, and chances wasted by Hutchinson and Earrye. The hosts were staring to exert themselves now, and with Scole tiring, got themselves back in the game with Lamb finishing from 20 yards. Changes were made and Scole were gifted a winner when a poor goal kick clearance was fired back by Ruddock. Scole dug in and held on for a hard fought win.
Man of the match this week to Matthew Baker, looking back to his best again, and a very important goal-line clearance.
