Scole Vets ship five again.
Scoreline flatters hosts after brave performance by depleted Vets
Scole Vets travelled to fave Thetford Town with a much changed side, with call-ups for Paul Head and Ali Bannon, and a debut for James Hunt. Thetford had won all their games in emphatic fashion and are much fancied for a second successive promotion. The hosts started with the wind behind them and piled the pressure on the Scole goal from the start. Barrett and Head were trying hard to hold the ball up and Hanner put in another impressive shift. The hosts took the lead with a fine finish from a free kick 20yards out, which fizzed in off the post. However some brave defending and some fine saves from keeper Bartram, the hosts only had the one goal advantage at the break.
After the break, Scole had the wind behind them and continued to battle under pressure. Bannon came on for Head and chased down well, and then Scole got back in the game, Hanner sliding the ball to Manning, whose shot carried into the top corner. Unfortunately, parity lasted only a few minutes, as the hosts swept forward down the left, scoring from a cross to the far post. Bartram made mor good saves, but couldn’t prevent a third. As Scole legs tired, Thetford added two more goals to give them a flattering scoreline.
Everyone battled today, special mentions to Paul Head for putting in a great effort, with only one of the opposition aged over 40. Also to Jonny Hanner who put in another great performance, but just pipped to man of the match by Steve Bartram in goal.
