Scole Vets bow out of County Cup
Despite scoring first, Scole Vets end up well beaten.
Scole Vets faced Premier Division Horsford United in the second round of the County Cup. Scole were looking fo a possible upset after two straight wins in the league, but were missing Powell and Hutchinson, and skipper Manning played through illness.
The hosts started well and created a few half chances early on. Scole had to defend deep, with Horsford moving the ball at pace. However, when Scole got the ball down and played, the hosts defence looked vulnerable. Scole took the lead when Hanner chased down a lost cause, fed Simon Bartram, whose cross was headed home by Ruddock. Earrye threatened down the left, but the hosts came back strong with keeper Bartram tipping an effort over the bar. Horsford dominated possession, but were largely limited to long range efforts.
The second period saw Horsford push both full backs forward, pinning Scole back in their own half. The equaliser came just after the hour when Williams was caught in possession and Horsford scored breaking down their left side. They took the lead from a free kick with a well placed cushion header, and from there took control. Scole struggled to get out of their half and the pace of the hosts attacks were causing real problems. Two further goals were added and Scole were well beaten.
Next week sees another tough match, away to Thetford Town in the league.
