Scole Vets go down at home

Lack of goal threat is costly to hosts.

Scole Vets entertained fellow promoted team Wymondham Town at Ransome Avenue, in the first league game of the season. The hosts got off to a bright start and should have had an early lead. With the wind behind them, the visitors posed a greater direct threat. They opened the scoring when their right winger received the ball from a throw in and had too much time to pick his shot. A dubious penalty was awarded when Baker collided with an opponent despite no appeal. The spot kick was duly converted and Scole found themselves two down at the break.

The second half satrted with Scole looking to push forward. Whittaker should have pulled a goal back, but missed his chance. Wymondham added a third with a miss-kicked cross which trickled in. Goreham had led the line well, but ran out of steam and keeper Bartram made a bra even save at the end. Having lost Manning in the first half, the spine of Scole's team from last year was missing, though nobody gave up and the opposition will likely be promotion contenders. Man of the match to Poodle for his tireless work in the midfield.
