Last game of season sees reserves finish third

Scole reserves travelled to the outskirts of Yarmouth to take on division 5 south champions Belton and were the first team to return with any points from them at home all season and completing their league season in a creditable but frustrating third place.

Belton obviously have some class players and with Scole having just one sub (plus a crocked Ben Cussons and an old age pensioner - nearly - named for emergencies) things looked as though they were shaping up wrongly especially after the warm up which involved making Peter Hugman chase the loose balls behind the goal! However after 10 minutes of Belton looking comfortable on the ball but not creating anything Scole gained a bit of confidence and when after 20 minutes a Belton backpass to their keeper bobbled over his foot as he went to kick and the ball dribbled in the net to put Scole one up the visitors started to put more pressure on Belton and then 5 minutes later Kez Grady released Kieran Manning down the right and his low cross was met by the incoming Nathan Doe who got some wattle on the end of the pass and Scole were 2 up and they looked like they might be on for a turkey shoot. Belton were rocking at this point and Brendan Head then ran through the home defence but his left foot shot came back off the bar and was cleared. Belton upped their game and a forward on 35 minutes held off Tom Davey like a turkey twizzler and looped his shot over the on-coming Josh Goodwin to pull a goal back. The equaliser came before half-time and some sloppy defending from Scole was punished with the home sides tails up Scole did well to hang on to half-time with their gizzards intact.

Belton had the majority of the ball in the second half as Scole tired but they kept plugging away and defended well restricting Belton to few clear cut chances. Scole replaced wild turkey Rout with Rob Payne and Scole continued to hold out until 70 minutes in and Goodwin couldnt hold onto a shot and a forward hit the post with the rebound coming back off his knee into the goal and celebrating in front of the Scole defenders. The visitors had the occasional foray into the Belton area but without troubling the keeper but then with a minute left on the clock Manning was put through and he beat his marker and confidently slotted home to gobble up the equaliser for Scole to ensure an away point for Scole.

A good point but frustrating end to the season however taking the whole season together we have done well to stay in the race for so long with all the behind the scenes issues from pre-season right through to the end.

Man of the match - Harry Abbott - a player who has come on leaps and bounds and was excellent throughout at left back.
