'Scole dominate but lose unbeaten run'
By Alan Boulter
Wymondham Town Fc 1 v 0 Scole United Fc
Few who witnessed this game could fail to be amazed how Scole didn't come away with at least a point if not all three! Some very questionable officiating and some wretched luck and heroic defending from a home side determined to protect an impressive unbeaten home record that stretches back to February 2017 meant that the yellows came away from Kings Meadow pointless and frustrated.
Once again Scole were missing some 1st choice players and were bolstered by youngsters coming through from the reserves.
The 1st half was a tightly matched conflict and the 2 sides were only separated by a solitary Wymondham goal by well thought of youngster Payton Swatman after Scole tried to play their way out of defence into a tightly congested midfield. Scole had an early chance when Kieran Manning
had a one on one with the keeper but couldn't beat him.
The away side came back after the interval and took the game to last season's Division 1 champions. Wymondham were struggling in particular to contain winger Joe Hooton
and a 47th minute foul on him almost bought the equaliser when Josh Lucraft
hit the bar with the keeper beaten from the resultant free kick. Scole had numerous chances following this but couldn't quite find the goal. Lucraft hit the post and Ben Norton
-Hugman forced the keeper into a very good save down by his right hand post. Despite numerous cynical challenges and copious amount of time wasting Scole were not getting any assistance from the 3 officials and indeed ended up with 3 bookings and an extremely harsh sending off against only 1 caution to the home side. Wymondham also benefited from a dubious penalty which Kai Hewitt
heroically kept out. But it was all in vain and Wymondham somehow held on for the win with Scole having surely come as close as anyone previously to have broken that record.
A good performance that deserved more and a big thanks to the vocal travelling support that encouraged the visitors right up to the final whistle.
Next and last game this calendar year is a league game next Saturday away at Bradenham Wanderers. 14:00 kick off.
