'Scole in stalemate with 2nd placed Long Stratton'
By Alan Boulter
Long Stratton 0 v 0 Scole United
Scole travelled the short distance up the A140 to play 2nd placed Long Stratton. With the last minute equaliser for Stratton in the home tie in August still fresh in the memory, Scole were in a positive mindset with the only negative being the unavailability of top scorer Connor Kerry due to injury.
The game was a fairly scrappy affair with both teams basically cancelling each other out. Scole couldn't really get their passing game going against an extremely hard working and direct Stratton side. Stratton probably just shaded a tight opening half and Scole couldn't capitalise from the home keeper being sin-binned just before half-time.
After the interval Scole had a bit more of the ball and the tireless lone striker Brad Hunt was causing the home defence some headaches. Josh Lucraft
also had a couple of good efforts that needed to be saved but Scole could never relax with Stratton always looking dangerous on the break. Biggest cheer of the day came from when Lucraft senior (Lee) nonchalantly controlled a high ball on the sidelines showing the youngsters what a veteran can do.
Although goalless it was an entertaining game and as 2 draws prove there really isn't anything between these 2 sides which speaks volumes about how far Scole have come in the last couple of years.
Next week back at Ransome Avenue with a league game against Bradenham Wanderers. 2.00 kick off.
