Scole 1st team started their Anglian Combination Premier League season with a home tie against fancied Beccles Town at Ransome Avenue on a sunny Tuesday evening in front of a large expectant crowd keen to see how Jon Abbott's side would perform following their promotion last term.
Scole had a near full strength squad to choose from and following a mainly positive pre-season were confident that they wouldn't let their support down.Joe Hooton
had the 1st chance with a scorching shot forcing the Beccles keeper into a fabulous save after 7 mins. Shortly afterwards Beccles hit back but were denied by an offside flag much to the disdain of the Beccles bench. On half hour however the opening goal came when Joe Hooton
finished a good cross from the left from Josh Lucraft
. Hooton was also involved in Scole's 2nd goal, his jinking run forcing a handball in the penalty area giving Alex Blakely
the chance to blast in from the spot.
Beccles came out strong after the interval and keeper Kai Hewitt
pulled of a wonder save from point blank after a well taken free kick to maintain Scole's 2 goal lead. With rolling subs being implemented in the Anglian Combination this season, Abbott was using this to full advantage and Lucraft who had been withdrawn in the 1st half returned on 63 minutes and less than 60 seconds later crossed from the right for James Harrison
to knock in from close range just in front of the onrushing Ashley Baxter
to make it 3-0.
Goal of the game came just before the end of the game when Callum Bray
sent a crossfield ball out to Josh Lucraft
on the left wing. Lucraft beat a couple of defenders then laid the ball back to a prowling Brad Hunt on the edge of the 18 yard box. Hunt took a touch to take it past his marker and unleashed a worldie on the half volley past the helpless keeper to round of a wonderful evening for the home side.
A great start and very good performance from the whole squad giving Nathan Doe from match day sponsor John Doe of Diss
a difficult choice for man of the match. He eventually chose Joe Hooton
for his all action display.
Next game is at home against local rivals Long Stratton next Tuesday evening 18.15 kick off.
