'1st get back to winning ways in final pre-season friendly...."
By Alan Boulter
Scole United fc 3 v 0 Bacton United fc
Scole welcomed Suffolk Junior Cup Finalist's Bacton United to Ransome Ave for a tough final pre-season test before the league programme starts on August 14th.
With Manager Jon Abbott & Assistant Lewi Plowman away on work duties, Al Boulter took the reins with ressies boss Paul Head alongside him. Also missing were several members of the squad but Scole still fielded a strong looking side testament to the hard recruitment work carried out this summer by Abbott.
Scole started very brightly and seemed well up for the game and pressed the SIL side from minute one. A tactic that Bacton were unused to and they looked on the back foot from the start. Ryan Perry
came very close early on with his header from a Liam Smith
cross cannoning back off the crossbar. Then on 23 minutes Joe Hooton
made a tidy finish after a great run had put him onto a wonderful lobbed through from skipper Jordan Balls
. 10 minutes good work from Liam Smith
saw him cut inside from the left and take a speculative shot from just outside the 18 yard box which to his delight the Bacton keeper made a proper meal out of to gift Scole a well deserved 2 goal lead.
Some worry on the hour when stand in keeper Sam Macdowall
had to leave the pitch for a back injury meaning centre back Chris Collins-Reed
took the gloves. Shortly after reserve goalie Josh Goodwin-Tallents
stepped up to take over before his own game following this one. Scole's last goal came from the hard working Perry who following another Balls pass attacked from the right hand side and his fizzer of a shot was to much for the keeper to handle and he could only parry it into the side of the goal. The back from holiday Josh Lucraft
came close when he also hit the bar following a typical mazy run.
A very good performance to finish pre-season on and one that gives manager Abbott lots to ponder on for the opening game of the season against Beccles Town on the evening of Tuesday 14th.
