'1st Team keep a clean sheet away at Aylsham'

Aylsham 0 v 3 Scole United

Scole travelled to Youngs Park to face 6th place Aylsham knowing that a win would keep them right in the promotion race and with rumours circulating that a couple of Premier sides are looking to make the step up to the new Thurlow Nunn set up its still all to play for on the promotion front.
No injury worries to speak off and only keeper Ben Buckmaster (away) & Luke Hunt (unwell) unavailable this was probably manager Jon Abbott's hardest squad to choose all season. Kai Hewitt once again stood in for Buckmaster and youngster Kieran Manning was hoped to have a much needed 90 minutes with the reserves. Brad Hunt, Taylor Pooley & Dave Coleman were named as substitutes which just goes to show the strength in depth that Scole have got this season.
Abbott set his side up with strict tactical positions and instructions and his charges carried this out to the letter! A '4-1-2-3' formation with skipper Ben Norton-Hugman as the deep midfielder shielding his back four and a pacy front 3 of Connor Kerry, James Harrison & Liam Smith.
On a bitterly cold and windy day with plenty of snow flurries in the air Scole started strong against the wind. It took just 6 minutes for them to score the games 1st goal. The fluidity of the front 3 backed up by midfielders Alex Blakely and Harry Browne were causing Aylshams defence issues and when Smith delivered a cross from the right hand side, Kerry couldn't quite get the touch but the on rushing Browne made no mistake to give the away side the lead.
Scole definitely had the edge for the rest of the half although Aylsham did hit the post following a corner but the ball rebounded straight into the arms of a grateful Hines. Harrison upfront was working tirelessly and he was rewarded just before half time when a pinpoint Blakely through ball disected the defence and Harrison took the ball round the advancing keeper to place the ball into the empty net to give Scole a deserved 2 goal lead at the break.
After the break, Aylsham obviously fired up after a half time talking to coped very well with the wind against and dominated the possession. However this Scole side do not have one of the best defensive records in the league for nothing and showed a remarkable resilience and discipline in keeping the home side at bay. Looking to score on the break was the order of the day and they did this when a determined Harrison outrun his marker for half the pitch to deliver a cross into young substitute Bradley Hunt who finished beautifully for Scole's third. Hunt could have got a second minute later when he himself went on a mazy run and his audacious chip just went the the wrong side of the post.
A very good performance and result from the whole squad today and a fully deserved clean sheet for the unsung heroes in defence, Natty Ireland in particular leading his back four stoutly.

An tough home fixture against an always rugged and determined Loddon United next week 2.30 ko at Ransome Avenue.
(Note: the midweek fixture away to Mundford has been postponed due to floodlight failure!)
