After last weeks much celebrated win over the divisions top team, Scole faced their replacement as leaders in UEA this week! A task made even more difficult with the ever lengthening injury list to the 1st team squad. Add to that Chris Collins-Reed being unavailable due to work commitments and Kieran Manning & Connor Kerry also carrying knocks the starting 11 wasn't confirmed until just before kick off following late fitness tests.
UEA showed why they are in such a lofty position with some flowing football, superb movement & strong athletic line up. A team still on a high following last years promotion into senior football it became apparent that this was the best side Scole had faced this year. However Scole dug superbly and although once again they were struggling to offer much of an attacking threat their defensive discipline was paying dividends and frustrating the 'Scholars'. That was until a slight lapse in concentration and a sign of the immaturity this Scole side saw them needlessly give away possession following a quickly taken free kick 2 minutes before half-time and UEA took the lead from a fortuitous strike from outside the area.
So despite going in a goal down Scole were still in the frame and probably had the better chances in the second half but the goal would not come. Scole threw caution to the wind and put centre half Taylor Pooley upfront going more direct almost playing a 4-2-4 formation at times but to no avail. UEA also had chances to put the game to bed and it took a brilliant save from Ben Buckmaster from an 81st minute free kick to keep Scole in it right up to the final whistle.
A good close game but ultimately 3 points dropped albeit against a top quality side. Onwards next week away against Watton United.
5 sports clubs amongst winners in the Jewson Building Better Communities competition.
