'1st Team begin league campaign with a win & a clean sheet'
Attleborough Town 0 v 2 Scole United
Scole United began their 2017/18 Hadley & Ottaway Anglian Combination Division One campaign underway with a visit to the 'Station Rd' ground of their South Norfolk rivals Attleborough Town.
Scole were missing flying winger James Harrison through injury & centre half Taylor Pooley through a prior commitment but traveled with a strong squad. A very good crowd with a large visiting support saw Scole line up more conservatively than in recent games with a 4-2-3-1 formation with Matt Anderson starting at right back and Nat Ireland covering for the missing Pooley. Nyle Barker
was in an unfamiliar role on the right hand side for Harrison.
Scole began very brightly and followed manager Jon Abbott's instructions to the letter holding their defensive shape and playing quick passing football. Their play was rewarded when Barker quickly closed down the left full back, won the ball to play in Kieran Manning
for yet another brilliant finish to give Scole the lead. Boro were looking dangerous from dead ball situations but Scole were coping very well in open play, when in the 33rd minute they fell foul of the new 'Sin Bin' Trail! Reece Lanchester
was harshly adjudged to have conceded a penalty following a corner kick and his dissent for the decision was rewarded with a 10 minute spell in the 'Sin Bin'! Ben Buckmaster
superbly saved the spot kick but Scole had a nervy 10 minutes holding out the Attleborough onslaught.
HT- Attleborough Town 0 v 1 Scole United
Scole came out for the second half knowing Attleborough would come on strong and they did, but they held out admirably. Skipper Ben Norton
-Hugman converted a spot kick won by substitute Tom Green
to double their lead and in the end the 'Yellows' held on to a very good win, 3 points and a well deserved clean sheet.
