Under 12's climb to 3rd
By Tim Chisman
… with a hard earned clean sheet.
As the rain poured down, and many games being called off all over the county, it was looking likely that we would have to call the game off. I headed over to the pitch early to assess the damage. Thankfully, the pitch was in great condition and with the rain dying off, it was GAME ON!!
All players turned up in good time to get the warm up done and it was great to see them all smiling and having fun, in spite of the conditions.
We picked up where we left off after a fantastic training session on Friday, and were keen to implement the tactical session into the game.
With recent fantastic defensive performances, we put our discipline to the test, making the first formation change of the season, from defensive minded 4-3-1 to a more attacking 3-1-2-2), and everyone adapted extremely well to their adjusted positions.
We decided to start against the wind and uphill for the first half. We were making chances from the kick-off, and were disciplined in defence. We were able to get the ball down and play our football, without too much hinderance from the wind, and after a number of efforts on goal, we were 1-0 up mid-way through the first half. We continue to make a number of chances whilst staying composed and strong in defence. Fantastic communication across the defensive players, fantastic bravery and distribution from our goalkeeper (who was give the task to use his throws more..! and was almost hitting the half way line with them!).
Half Time 1-0
As we went into the break 1-0 up and discussed positive points from the first half and planned to hold majority of the possession in the second half. this is exactly what we did.
The CDM role was executed with perfect balance, between supporting the midfield pair and dropping in to a 'Back-4' when needed. The wide players were disciplined enough to work up and down the wings for the whole game with great link up play with the CDM and strikers. The strikers were relentless constantly worked the opposing goalkeeper, and got their rewards with a further 3 goals before the final whistle.
Final Score 4-0
Next week we take on 5th place Norwich United Tigers.
